Updated Review: Skin Food Egg White Pore Foam

So in a previous post, I reviewed both the Skin Food Egg White Cleansing Oil and Egg White Pore Foam.  Overall, I found that the Foam cleanser was a little too drying for my skin, and since then I’ve avoided it.  I’ve since tested the Pore Foam with my pH strips, and the results were a little shocking.Skinfood Egg White Pore Cleansing Oil Foam

Instead of just including the results in my previous post, I decided to write an updated review because I need to totally change my score.

So, in my previous post, I gave Skin Food Egg White Pore Foam a 7.5/10.  Not a bad score, because although I found it to be too drying in the winter, I thought that it would be a good cleanser for warmer and more humid days.  But then I tested it with my pH strips, and these were the results:

Skin Food Egg White Pore Foam pH level

These results are NOT good for a cleanser.  10.5 pH level is WAY too harsh for a cleanser, and it will definitely strip your acid mantle, causing more damage than good!  When I saw the results I gasped, then immediately threw away the cleanser.

If you don’t know how important your acid mantle is, please read my previous post.  Ever since I’ve made the decision to never use a cleanser higher than a 5.5 pH level, my skin has improved dramatically.  My low pH cleanser isn’t the only product in my toolbox to help my skin, but it is one of the most important!  Maintaining a low pH in my skin helps ward off acne-causing bacteria, reduces my skin sensitivity and my rosacea.  For anyone with problem skin, it is absolutely crucial to ONLY use a gentle, low pH foaming cleanser after you use an oil cleanser.

I’m really shocked that this cleanser is so popular.  It definitely cleanses your face, but that’s because it’s stripping everything off of it, which is NOT good.  This cleanser should have come with a warning.

Overall:

This cleanser is one big HELL NO for me.  And really, I highly discourage anyone else from using it.  If you don’t have problem skin now, fantastic for you, but over time you may end up stripping your acid mantle to the point where you do get problem skin.   And this cleanser is an absolute NO for anyone currently suffering from problem skin.

Pros: None that I can think of.  The extremely high pH level totally ruins any positives this cleanser may have.

Cons: pH level is WAY too high.  Also, leaves a film that’s difficult to wash off, and too drying.

Total score: 2/10

Ingredients: 4/10 (Several acne-triggering ingredients, way too harsh ingredients, and the pH is too high.)

Quality: 0/10 (Cleanses well but it’s too drying because of harsh ingredients.  And the pH level is way too high.)

Wear: 0/10 (Foams nicely, but took a lot of rinsing to get the film off my skin.  The zero is based on the fact that the high pH will strip your skin and do more damage than good.)

Price: 4/10 ($16 is decent price for a cleanser – but not if it’s totally useless.  I just ended up throwing mine away.)

Woah, I’ve never seen a pH test done on a cleanser before but that’s definitely something I’ll look into now when I purchase new cleansers. Thank you for this! Won’t be picking this up now. :O

Huh. I’ve used this cleanser a lot, and I personally think it’s the best cleanser I’ve ever used. I have extremely dry skin, and it does not dry my face out at all. Unlike other cleansers I’ve used, I don’t get a tight feeling in my face, and I don’t need to put moisturizer on directly after. My skin feels very soft afterwards, and I absolutely love the scent.

This was really helpful! I’m looking for a new cleanser (after having used the Volcanic line by innisfree), and thought about buying this one as the general reviews were good. Skinfood seemed like a safe bet for my sensitive skin – so I’m happy I found your view on it! Wouldn’t want to put that on my face! 🙂

If you’re not sure which one to get… I would just stick with CeraVe. It’s the right pH, and won’t over-dry your sensitive skin. Not the best for cleaning makeup, so only use it as the last of your 2-part cleaning process. And try using a konjac sponge with it if you haven’t yet! Really gets your face clean without overstripping
