Review: COSRX Low-pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

Discovering this product made me a huge fan of COSRX!  It immediately replaced by beloved CeraVe cleanser.  I’ve been using this product consistently for a year now, and it never disappoints!  Gentle on skin, cleanses without a trace, and best of all, the right pH to keep your skin healthy.  Oh, and guess what?  It’s great for all times of the day – not just the morning!

An acidic face wash is incredibly important to maintain proper health of your skin, especially if you’re prone to getting acne.  Please read my previous post to understand why it’s important to nurture the acid mantle.  Basically, you should aim for a pH around 5.0-6.0 for a face wash.

At around 11.0, most face washes are way to alkaline, and can cause some serious damage to your skin overtime.  They will disrupt the delicate balance of your skin, cause more acne, cause redness and sensitivity in your skin, and dry it out.  The reason why most cleansers are alkaline, is because they’re really good at stripping all the dirt off of the face.

For years I’ve been using CeraVe gel cleanser because the pH was at a proper level and it did a decent job of cleansing my skin.  However, CeraVe is only good if you use it after an oil-based cleanser first.  Unfortunately, it’s not effective in cleaning all the dirt off your face by itself.  Always searching for new and better products, I came across COSRX’s Low pH Good Morning Gel and immediately purchased it.

CosRX gel cleanser

I’m so glad that I did!  At an average of 5.5, this product is the right pH.  It’s also gentle on the skin and an amazingly effective cleanser.  Could you ask for anything more?  I couldn’t!  Which is why I’ve been happily using this for about a year and haven’t been searching for any other cleanser to replace it.

As you can see from the above pictures, this cleanser does an amazing job of cleaning away makeup and dirt.  For my experiment above, I used Urban Decay’s 24/7 eyeliner in Zero (blackest of black), which if you’ve ever used it before, you know that it can be difficult to properly clean!  This cleanser should still be used as the second step after an oil-based cleanser, but at least it’s good on its own in a pinch.

When applied to damp skin, the gel froths up a little with suds, and smells amazing!  There are a lot of botanical oils in this cleanser such as Tea Tree Leaf Oil, which is what gives the cleanser its amazing smell and leaves the skin a little tingly after washing it away.  As a bonus, the botanical oils also provide great antibacterial benefits!

Ingredients: Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate, Polysorbate 20, Styrax Japonicus Branch/Fruit/Leaf Extract, Butylene Glycol, Saccharomyces Ferment, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Leaf Extract, Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Allantoin, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Betaine Salicylate, Citric Acid, Ethyl Hexanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Sodium Benzoate, Disodium EDTA

Overall:

Love love LOVE this cleanser!  Perfect for my sensitive and acne-prone skin.

Cons: Can’t think of a thing!

Total score: 10/10
